The Return of the True Safari

Expedition camps, seasonal camps & mobile safaris

When you think of Botswana, think variety. This is a destination defined by flexibility and that flexibility is one of its greatest strengths when designing truly memorable safaris. From vast floodplains to deep, untouched wilderness, regions connect effortlessly, landscapes shift dramatically and itineraries can be built with genuine creativity rather than restriction.

Botswana allows you to do this better than almost anywhere else. Expedition style camps, seasonal camps and true mobile safaris can all be woven into the same journey as classic high end lodges. Each brings its own rhythm, atmosphere and way of experiencing the bush, and together they create a safari that feels layered and complete.

This is where our advice becomes invaluable. We work with you to decide where to elevate the experience, where to strip things back to assist with the budgets, and how to balance comfort with authenticity. Our role is not just to book camps, but to help you design safaris that feel thoughtful, varied and genuinely unforgettable.

Bush Ways Safaris’ Mababe Tented Camp

Mababe Tented Camp is a small, seasonal camp located within the Mababe Private Concession, designed to feel quietly integrated into its natural surroundings. The camp comprises eight Meru style tents, each offering an ensuite bathroom and a comfortable, unfussy layout. Shared spaces are open and welcoming, with a relaxed lounge and dining area centred around a traditional campfire. The emphasis is on understated design, excellent wildlife viewing and an intimate bush setting that reflects the essence of a classic safari experience. The camp can be reached by road from Maun or by small aircraft to Khwai airstrip.

Peake Private Safaris

Peake Private Safaris offers privately guided mobile safaris that allow guests to explore Botswana with a strong sense of freedom and flexibility. Journeys are tailored for families and small groups, with carefully planned camp setups that balance comfort and practicality. Accommodation is simple yet well considered, meals are prepared over an open fire and shared in relaxed bush settings, and guiding is consistently excellent. The experience feels adventurous, personal and deeply connected to the landscape.

Beagle Expeditions

Beagle Expeditions operates between two small, seasonal camps in a highly regarded private concession in the Okavango Delta, offering a deeply remote and exclusive safari experience. Accommodation is in spacious Meru tents with airy layouts that open onto the surrounding bush, creating a strong sense of connection to place. Facilities are intentionally simple yet carefully considered, with excellent food, thoughtful hospitality and standout guiding. With limited guest numbers and activities that include game drives, guided walks and mokoro excursions, the experience feels wild, personal and quietly refined. Access is only by helicopter.

andBeyond Under Canvas at Nxabega and Sandibe

Under Canvas at Nxabega and Sandibe offers a more polished take on the expedition style. Accommodation is in three elegant tented suites with ensuite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor showers, comfortable beds and refined furnishings. Communal areas are generous and thoughtfully designed, with attentive service and well curated dining. These camps are ideal for travellers who enjoy comfort and style while still valuing a sense of exploration. Access by small aircraft to the Sandibe / Nxabega airstrips.

Natural Selection Expeditions Camp

Natural Selection’s expeditions camp combine contemporary design with practical comfort. It is located in the northwest of the Okavango Delta in an area we call the Mapula concession. The eight meru-tents are spacious, beautifully styled and well ventilated, with proper beds, ensuite bathrooms and hot water. Communal spaces are relaxed and sociable, often centred around open dining areas or a fire. The overall feel is modern, unfussy and quietly luxurious. Access is by small aircraft.

Africa Bush Camps’ Linyanti Expeditions

Linyanti Expeditions focuses on intimacy and location, offering a small number of tents in a remote and wildlife rich area. Accommodation includes comfortable beds, ensuite bathrooms with hot water and simple, tasteful interiors. Facilities are intentionally pared back, encouraging guests to spend time outdoors and engaged with the environment. The result is a calm, refined experience that feels both exclusive and grounded. Access by small aircraft.

Bush Ways Safaris’ Caracal Safari

The 8 night Bush Ways Safaris’ Caracal Mobile Safari is safari in its purest form, stripped back to what truly matters. Travelling through Moremi, Mababe with a 2 night stay on an island in the Delta, the days are shaped by wildlife encounters, changing landscapes, and the rhythm of the bush. Nights are spent under canvas, close to nature, with the sounds of Africa all around. It is an experience driven by exploration, connection, and a deep respect for the wild, a true return to the roots of safari. This safari starts and ends in Maun and can easily be combined with the Kalahari or Makgadikgadi.

Ker & Downey Botswana’s Maxa Camp

Maxa Camp is defined by its sense of place and thoughtful simplicity, set deep in the northern Okavango Delta along the Manga River. With just five tents including a family unit, the camp keeps things intentionally small, allowing for a calm, personal safari experience. Accommodation is comfortable and understated, while the focus remains firmly on time in the bush, strong guiding and a genuine connection to the surrounding environment. The result is a quiet, well considered Delta camp that feels grounded, confident and refreshingly unforced. Access is by helicopter, only a short 5 minute flight from Xaraxai airstrip.
